Storytelling is the way we convey in words, images, and sounds, certain events taking place in the world, whether real or fictional. It involves the interaction between a storyteller and an audience. The history of storytelling dates back thousands of years to the oral tradition when our ancestors sat around a fire sharing stories about the hunt. Storytellers tell many different types of tales, such as, myths, legends, fairytales, folktales, and true stories. The elements of a story often include characters, plot, setting, and narrative viewpoint.
Storytelling is used in society to entertain, educate, and instill moral values. The art of storytelling has developed into transmedia storytelling or multimedia storytelling, which is a technique that uses multiple media platforms to tell a story with some degree of audience interaction. It has even extended into corporate storytelling and beyond. These stories all become a shared experience that help us better understand ourselves and find more meaning in life.
